This is the first elk I have shot out of a tree stand, the shot was about 5 yards. I can even hit them at 5 yards. The recovery was about 150 yards. I was using a little 54" T.D. recurve with a gold tip shaft and a magnus broadhead.

This was my first year hunting with my 62" takedown Bear's Paw Bow. I snuck through the grass from about 200 yards out while he was wallowing in a small pond. I cut the distance to 40 yards--he was still out of my comfortable shooting range. As the bull got up to leave, he followed a game trail within 25 yards of me and I put a Port Orford cedar shaft tipped with a Zwicky 125 Eskimo in him. He ran a little over 100 yards before he went down less than 10 yards from the Jeep trail. The best part was it was an easy drag for my wife and daughters! Great bow----fun hunt. |
